Prof. Görün Arun, after completing Architecture education at Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, she received PhD at Yıldız Technical University Civil Engineering Graduate School. She has retired Yıldız Technical University, Architecture Faculty, Structural Systems Division in 2015.

She has been the President of ICOMOS-ISCARSAH (International Scientific Committee on Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage) during 2014-2023 and founding member of ISCARSAH Turkey.

She is member of ICOMOS Turkey, International Masonry Society, IASS-International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures where she established and chaired WG17 Historic Spatial Structures till 2015. She is the director of SEWC-Structural Engineering World Congress Turkish group.

Her research area is diagnosing the structural problems of the existing structures including masonry, timber, early concrete and steel structures in seismic areas. She has run and completed 14 national and international research projects on historical structures, has authored 5 books and written more than 200 scientific papers and reports and organized 7 International Symposia on heritage structures.

Today, as Emeritus Professor she gives seminars on Structural Restoration of Architectural Heritage in related Institutions and consult private and governmental restorations.
