Kerisel Lecture – Geotechnics for the preservation of the architectural heritage of a sinking city
Mexico City, with more than 20 million inhabitants, is sinking due to extensive water exploitation. It also lies, mostly, over extremely soft and compressible clays that have induced differential settlements in the whole of its urban infrastructure, including heritage buildings. This presentation describes some of the solutions and techniques with which Geotechnical Engineers have coped with the challenge of preserving these culturally relevant structures.
